Making Christ the Cornerstone

Book 2 of Marriage by the Book

What is the most important thing you can do to make a great marriage? The Bible gives us a clue when it says, "Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain" (Psalm 127:1). In other words, the more you allow God to be the Lord of your marriage, the more comfortable and earthquake-proof it will be.

The truths in this book will revolutionize your marriage. Biblical marriage and family counselor Doug Britton writes that after successfully counseling with couples, he often asks what one thing helped most. The most common answer couples give is that they began to center their marriage in the Lord in concrete ways. The main key, they say, was learning practical steps to center their marriage in the Lord and how to pray together.

Making Christ the Cornerstone shows how to center your marriage in the Lord. In its pages, you will discover:

     •   How your Christian walk affects your life together

     •   How to tune up your own walk with Christ

     •   How to set spiritual priorities in your marriage

     •   Key ways to pray together every day

     •   How to escape being uncomfortable when praying out loud

     •   Ways to make room for Jesus in your daily lives

     •   Guidelines to fellowshipping with other couples

     •   How your individual spiritual gifts can work together

Is your husband or wife unwilling to center your marriage in the Lord? If so, don't be discouraged or bitter. The insights in this Christian marriage book will help you become the best possible spouse and leave your mate in God’s hands. The Lord is faithful. As you grow in him, he will bless you in ways you cannot imagine.

This book is perfect for individual study as well as group study. It can be studied by individuals, couples, small groups, and marriage classes.

It is ideal for a six-week study. "Making Christ the Cornerstone" can be studied alone, or as part of an ongoing study using all eight books in the Marriage by the Book series.

A leaders' guide is included at the end of this book. It includes instructions on how to lead a group, as well as week-by-week discussion questions, so you don't need a buy a leaders' guide. (However, if you desire more detailed suggestions for starting a small group ministry or leading small groups, a separate Group Leaders' Guide is available.)

The book is interactive, with personal application questions scattered throughout to help you put its biblical advice into practice. You don't need to buy a separate workbook.

Put Jesus first in your home as you follow this solidly scriptural advice!

Key Bible verses on creating a Christian marriage

Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant (Genesis 25:21).

Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain (Psalm 127:1).

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful (Joshua 1:8).

For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them (Matthew 18:20).

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength (Mark 12:30).

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word (Ephesians 5:26).

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful (Colossians 4:2).

Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more (1 Thessalonians 4:1).

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).
Read about how to apply these verses---and more---in your marriage. Making Christ the Cornerstone provides practical, biblical tools that will help you create a marriage that pleases God and brings you joy.
